Guide To Making Mashups
Aug 15, 2022
In this tutorial, we will go over how to make a simple mashup using Fadr.
What is a mashup?
A mashup is a type of remix where two or more songs are combined into one. Mashups are a fun way to get started with making music since you can piggyback off existing songs and skip having to learn about musical composition.
How do you make a mashup?
Traditionally, making a mashup requires the use of a type of software called a Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW. Unfortunately, DAWs can be expensive and difficult to learn. Thanks to advances made at Fadr, you can skip all of this and let our Remix AI do the heavy lifting for you. Making a mashup on Fadr is as easy as dropping in your stems on the Remix page and making a few minor adjustments. Here are the steps:
Go to the Remix Page.
Select either ‘My Stems’ or ‘Public Stems’ to see your available stems. Any song you upload to Fadr will be automatically stemmed and analyzed by our Remix AI. See our Stemming Tutorial for more help with stemming. Public stems are provided by Fadr and can be used in any remix or mashup for free.
Pick the stems you want to add by dragging and dropping into the Remix view, clicking on the + symbol, or double clicking. Every stem you add will automatically be synchronized to the remix. You can try picking these same stems to get the same result as this tutorial, or use your own stems.
Try listening to your mashup so far to help you decide what changes might need to be made.
Let’s try increasing the tempo to 140 bpm by holding and dragging with the mouse.
Next, let’s change the key to ‘D maj/B min’ by clicking on the dropdown.
Now, let’s shift the vocals to the right. To do this, first zoom in on the track by dragging the right end of the scroll bar towards the left. Zoom in until 48 beats is visible at the end of the timeline.
Now drag the vocals bubble to the right by 8 beats.
Let’s give it one last listen before we download our final results.
Finally, let’s export our mashup! It will take about a minute for a high-quality render to be created in the cloud.
Once it's done exporting, we can download the mashup at any time.
Lastly, enjoy your mashup and share it with your friends!
